Steel properties :
ALTA Cr12MoV is a high carbon-chromium tool steel (Cr12% version, ledeburite organization). This is also a very commonly used cold work tool steel in China, Southeast Asia, Russia, Ukraine, Belraus, India etc markets. It comes with higher wear resistance, toughness and strength than D3, 1.2080. ALTA Cr12MoV steel can basically replace D3, 1.2080 steel in all usage scenarios, acted as a economic type grade of D2, 1.2379.
Features :
- High wear resistance
- High hardenability (workpieces with cross-sections below 300 - 400mm can be fully hardened)
- Good dimensional stability
- Good compressive strength

Applications :
It is used to manufacture various tools and molds with large cross-sections, complex shapes, and withstand large impact loads, also for making cutting tools, blades, mill working rolls etc.
- Used for making complex shapes of punching dies with material thickness >3mm, such as convex dies, concave dies and inserts. The recommended hardness is 58~62HRC for convex dies and 60~64HRC for concave dies.
- Used for making high wear-resistant convex and concave dies in blanking molds. Recommended hardness is guanidine 60~62HRC for convex dies and 62~64HRC for concave dies.
- Used for making deep-drawing die which requires high tensile strength, the recommended hardness is 62~64HRC.
- Used for making convex and concave molds and inserts of complex shapes in bending molds which require wear resistance. Recommended hardness is 60~64HRC for convex molds and 60~64HRC for concave molds.
- Used for making convex and concave dies for cold extrusion of aluminum parts. Suggested hardness is 60~62HRC for making convex die and 62-64HRC for making concave die.
